In-House Systems Thinking Training
Stop seeing your corner. Start seeing the system.
The capability to see the whole system clearly and know where to act. Built around your actual challenge.
Most people spend their careers becoming experts in their jobs. That's exactly what they're paid to do. But systems thinking does something different. It lifts your eyes from your own corner of the organisation so you can see the system that’s producing the results everyone's experiencing.
For a lot of people, that’s a genuine lightbulb moment, the first time they see the full shape of what they’re part of, rather than just the part they’re responsible for.
Once you start seeing the system, you notice things that were invisible before. Patterns rather than isolated problems. Relationships rather than reporting lines. Unintended consequences rather than simple cause and effect. Decisions stop being about optimising your own corner and start being about how the whole thing works together towards shared goals. That shift is where better leadership, better collaboration and better innovation often begin.
It matters most in change and transformation work because the real obstacles rarely sit neatly within a single project or department. They’re created in the gaps between parts of the organisation. One person seeing the system clearly helps, but something special happens when a leadership team see the same systemic map. Push wider still, and people across the organisation start catching problems early themselves, instead of everything having to escalate all the way up before anyone can see what’s really going on.
The same principle holds well beyond business. A lot of social and policy change still gets designed from a single perspective, or from stakeholder sessions that never quite add up to a view of the whole system. Knowing who genuinely needs to be in the room and which relationships actually matter is often the difference between lasting change and change that never quite gets moving.
Systems thinking is a broad field, and the right depth depends on what you’re actually trying to do. Sometimes a leadership team just needs enough systemic awareness to make sharper everyday decisions. Sometimes it calls for real depth: Soft Systems Methodology for the human dynamics beneath a messy organisational problem, or the Viable System Model for testing whether your project has the requisite variety and governance to remain sustainable on its own. Knowing the depth a situation actually calls for, rather than defaulting to whichever method a provider happens to know best, is the real value here.
Understanding systems thinking and building systemic capability aren’t quite the same thing either. Academic rigour matters, but organisations rarely change because someone explained a model well. They change because people start seeing their own work differently and find the confidence to decide differently together. Turning the thinking into something a team actually uses takes more than subject expertise, it takes facilitation skill, behavioural insight, real change and transformation experience, and an understanding of how people genuinely take on a new way of seeing. That combination, deep systems thinking paired with the practical skill to make it land in a real room, is rare, and it’s where we’d place ourselves among the best in the world.
It can be as light as a keynote introducing systemic awareness to a leadership team, or as deep as a full capability programme threaded through transformation, innovation or policy work, backed by whatever mix of live training, video, audio or written material fits. The depth and format follow what your organisation needs, not what’s easiest to package.

Neil is a mapmaker for complexity, and an acknowledged expert in Systems Thinking in Practice. He is one of the UK’s most experienced NLP Master Trainers, and someone who has spent over 25 years working within government, charities, and global business, including facilitating change at 10 and 11 Downing Street and alongside figures such as Richard Branson and Anita Roddick.
That combination is exactly why this exists as a conversation rather than a fixed course. Genuine systems thinking expertise is rare. Knowing how to make it land in a real room, rather than just explain it well, is rarer still. This is built around what your organisation actually needs, not whichever model happens to be easiest to package.
