Innovation
Coaching

Even the sharpest strategic minds do their best thinking in dialogue.

Innovation Coaching is thought partnership for leaders who want to think more clearly, move more confidently, and lead with more precision in complexity.

The leaders who navigate complexity most effectively are rarely the ones who think hardest on their own. They are the ones who have someone alongside them who can hold the whole picture, ask the question nobody else is asking, and help them see the system they are inside with fresh eyes.

That is not a sign of needing support. It is what sophisticated strategic thinking actually looks like in practice.

A great thinking partner doesn’t just listen. They challenge, reframe, and push your thinking into territory it wouldn’t reach alone. They bring enough understanding of the complexity you are working in to make every conversation genuinely useful, and enough distance from it to see what you cannot.

That is what Innovation Coaching offers. And it is a rare thing to find.

This is not conventional executive coaching. Most coaching works on leadership behaviours in the abstract, goals that could apply to anyone, in any context, facing any challenge. Innovation Coaching works on the specific live challenge of leading transformation in complex organisations, the kind where the rules keep changing, the politics are real, and the conventional playbook keeps letting you down.

It works across three levels simultaneously.

Strategic. Making sense of the system you are working in. Understanding where the real leverage is. Thinking through the moves most likely to create genuine momentum rather than the appearance of it. Keeping the business case sharp and the direction clear even as the complexity shifts around it.

Human. The challenges that derail innovation in complex organisations are rarely purely strategic. They are human. The sponsor who won’t fully commit. The colleague who is quietly working against the change. The board that wants transformation but flinches at what it actually costs. These dynamics require a quality of thinking, reading and presence that goes well beyond strategic planning. This is where coaching gets personal and where the real breakthroughs tend to happen.

Systemic. Beneath the strategic and the human sits the layer that most coaching never reaches: the patterns, structures and beliefs that make certain outcomes feel nearly impossible to the people inside the system. Learning to see and work at this level changes everything. It shifts the question from “why is this so hard?” to “what is actually holding this in place”, and that shift changes what becomes possible.

The intellectual foundation Neil brings to this work is genuinely unusual.

An MBA with a focus on management consulting keeps the work commercially grounded and strategically rigorous. An MA in Coaching and Mentoring gives the human work proper academic depth. An MSc in Systems Thinking in Practice connects it all to the frameworks that make complexity navigable. And more than 25 years of experience running change programmes and leading organisations means the thinking is never abstract. It is always in contact with the reality of how complex systems actually behave when real people are inside them.

The NLP dimension adds something further still. Neil is one of only a handful of NLP Master Trainers in the UK, with more than 25 years of applied practice. In a coaching context, NLP brings precision to the work that most approaches never reach. Not as technique but as a genuine understanding of how meaning is made, how beliefs shape behaviour, and how the inner work of the leader connects to the outer work of the system. It is the difference between a conversation that is interesting and one that actually changes something.

Every coaching relationship is shaped entirely around you, your challenge, your system, your thinking. There is no standard programme. The map we make is a map of your territory. Together.

Who it is for:

Leaders of innovation and change who want a regular thinking partner who genuinely understands the complexity they are working in.
Senior leaders who are responsible for transformation but were not specifically trained for it, and who want someone alongside them to help them think differently rather than simply push harder.
Innovation Coaching works as a standalone engagement or alongside a wider piece of work. It can also form part of a Private Client Partnership for leaders who want both strategic support and personal thinking partnership at the highest level.

This is not a coaching programme you enrol in. It is a relationship we both have to choose.

At any one time, Neil works with only a small handful of coaching clients. Not as a marketing constraint, but because this kind of thinking partnership requires genuine presence, and that cannot be spread thin. Before we begin, we need to know that the fit is right, that the challenge is one we can genuinely help with, and that you are ready to work at the level this kind of coaching requires. If that sounds like where you are, the conversation itself will tell us both what we need to know.

Neil holds an MA in Coaching and Mentoring, an MBA in Management Consulting, and is completing an MSc in Systems Thinking in Practice. He is one of the UK’s most experienced NLP Master Trainers and has coached leaders at every level across government, regulated industries and global business for over 25 years.

He brings warmth, rigour and a quality of attention that most leaders rarely experience in a professional context. His coaching draws on a depth of understanding about how people think, make meaning and shift behaviour that goes well beyond conventional approaches.

Innovation Coaching with Neil is available to a small number of clients each year. If you would like to explore whether this is the right fit for where you are, there are a few ways to begin.

“We’ve now had 1,500 women go through our programme, and we’ve eliminated attrition from that population, which is extraordinary. We have stopped women leaving our organisation once we invest in them in that way.”

The Systemic
Change Map

Map how change actually happens in your organisation.

Most leaders working in complex organisations know something isn’t quite working. The patterns underneath are often hard to see from the inside.

In around ten minutes, this free guided reflection helps you understand the conditions surrounding your challenge and how change actually happens in your organisation.

You won’t receive a score. You’ll receive a map.
A starting point for better thinking, better conversations and better decisions about what to do next.

Other ways we can help

Systemic Dialogue Labs

Most organisations already have the answers they need. They just haven’t asked the right people in the right way.

A Systemic Dialogue Lab brings together the voices closest to the challenge, at scale and in a structured way, and surfaces what the system already knows. Fast, rich, and often revelatory.

Systemic
Discovery

Most projects fail before they really start. Neither the problem nor the system has been properly understood, the right people aren’t aligned, and there’s no agility in the map the team need to follow.

Systemic Discovery reads the system early. It gives you the clarity, the alignment and the coalition you need before the real work begins.

Systemic Innovation Sprints

Once you understand the system, you need to move. A Sprint takes insights and turns them into ideas, prototypes and real-world testing with the people who will make or break them.

Focused, fast, and grounded in the reality of how your system actually works.

Systemic
Facilitation

Sometimes the problem isn’t the problem. It’s that the right people aren’t in the room, or they’re in the room but not really talking, or they’re talking but not hearing each other.

In complexity, where cause and effect aren’t always visible, Systemic Facilitation creates the conditions for alignment. It can also involve scenario testing, expanding beyond the known, and building the governance structures and sandboxes that give new ideas room to survive.

Innovation
Coaching

Leading innovation in a complex organisation is one of the lonelier jobs there is. The challenges are systemic, the politics are real, and most coaching doesn’t touch the half of it.

Innovation Coaching is thought partnership for leaders who need someone who genuinely understands the terrain, knows how complexity operates, and can help you bring people with you.

Private Client
Partnerships

Some challenges need more than a project. They need a thinking partner who rolls up their sleeves and stays close to the work, facilitating, coaching, building capability, nurturing change and doing whatever the moment requires.

We only take on a small number of these each year. Because when we partner with a client, we go all in.
